"The Mercenary" by Windlass, based off of Boromir's sword from the Lord of the Rings movies.

Possibly good, or disaster waiting to happen? Could that puppy actually be hollow ground? Twisted quillons or are they engravings/etching? This sword seems in line with their other "pseudo-LOTR" swords like the "Halfling" Sting substitute. I have to wonder as to the price.

Well, it could be bad or it could be good. That is the ever present condition of dealing with quality issues with MRL. However, the design looks nice... :) The fittings, at least the guard, are not likely to have been twisted but rather cast to shape, I'm guessing. As for it being hollow ground, no big deal to do that. So it is possible. However, doing it well is another issue altogether. That is where the risk likely lies. Someone needs to buy one and do a review.... Won't be me, though... I'm dead broke for the duration... ;)

I'm not sure how much it is, but the price will probably be around $200. Likely $250. I'll give MRL a call today and see what's doing (the scan is out of someone else's MRL catalog).

Well, then, be sure to pass along the price tag. Not that I can afford it, but I find this one kind of tempting, honestly... Why I wasn't born rich instead of....... whatever it is I was born... lol

No problem. It's a verrrry purty sword, and is very much like the original prop. I doubt it could hold a candle to my Redeemer, but that's another story. :P

Yesterday I recieved a copy of MRL's latest catalog. The price on this sword is $175.00. The furniture is cast and antiqued brass. Weight 3 pounds 4 ounces. Considering the price it looks like a possible alternative for those who can't aford the CF/Atrim Redeemer.

MRL/Atlanta Cutlery doesn't actually have these in stock yet, according to the person I spoke with. They should be getting them "next week." We'll see.

I did not order the sword. I'll give it until next week and will give another call about it. Maybe their website will be updated between now and then and I can just order it through there.

I sold my Studio M, so I'll put the money for that towards this. :)

May just be the image in question but some of the lines, especially the fuller, look pretty wavy (sloppy even).

Someone else said the same thing. I believe it is the paper on the scanner, not the sword itself.

I like the original sword of boromir a little more: more tapered and pointier on the business end; meaner and more aesthetically appealing to my eyes at least.
anyone know of any good swords that resemble the original sword of boromir?(i.e. broad cut-and-thrust sword with broad base, tapered to a sharp point)
