Insurrection!

Feild the event will be in - Click for larger imageKing Richard has called upon Lord Grey to assemble his men to help put down a plot against the King. Rebellions are being organized in the southern parts of England; all good men are required to be ready for fight for the King!

The History

The 1483 Rebellions, aka Buckingham Rebellion

King Richard IIIOn July 6, 1483 Richard of Gloucester was crowned Richard III.

On July 19, 1483, he set out on his first royal progress. He made his way through the Midlands and had reached Pontefract by the 27th of August. The Duke of Buckingham was with Richard and split off at this point to travel to his own castle at Brecon, Wales.

On August 28th, Buckingham was appointed head of the commission to enquire into treasons and felonies in London and eight of the southern countries.

On August 29th, Richard entered York.

On September 12th, the King discovered that the Duke of Buckingham was the ringleader of a serious rebellion to overthrow the king. Henry Tudor was to ascend the thrown through a marriage to Richard's niece Elizabeth of York.

In Kent, the unrest started in early October. These Lancastrian rebels were motivated by personal grievances. Richard, who already assembled his troops, swept in and easily won the battles. The Duke of Buckingham, who was unpopular in Wales, was unable to assemble a decent size force, this combined with unusually bad storms worked against the rebellion. These storms scattered Henry Tudor's invasion fleet; his boat sailed into Plymouth after the rebellion was defeated. Men lined the cliffs beckoning Henry's ship to land, but they were forces loyal to Richard, hence Henry felt something was wrong and sailed back to France.

The Duke of Buckingham fled upon seeing defeat. He was later discovered and taken to the king and was executed on November 2nd.
