The only thing on my list is a recreation of the piece commonly known as the Wakefield Sword. Arms and Armor is working on this custom piece and I hope it will be ready by Spring at the latest.

During 2021 I bought a Valiant Armoury type XVIII Monarch. I got cross potent pommel markers from Brian Kunz to put into the pommel recesses. I also got some daggers, most of them from Tod Cutler.

And you?

For 2021 I had another pretty full year for the hobby.

1. type M Daish axe made by Owen Bush in bloomery iron and steel.
2. Medium sized danish axe made in Eric McHough
3. A pattern-welded late 9th C. anglo saxon seax made by Owen Bush and Leo Todeschini.

This year will be more quiet. I'm just expecting a custom 12-13th. C. sword by Eric McHugh.

I got two home improvement projects done, a Victorian dagger and a hunting sword (though the latter still needs work -- there seems to be debris in the scabbard making the blade rust and I don't know how to get it out). Bought myself a super-cheap Szco knife, the kind with a beaded sheath and badly-formed Spanish notch. I also started a bunch of projects.

For 2022 the first thing I need to focus on is getting ready for the Battle of Plataia reenactment in Greece. I need several different sorts of arrows, a new bowcase, and a scabbard for my new dagger. Also want to get some clay and learn to write in cuneiform for public demos.

In 2021 I bought some cheap helmets. Some Balaur Arms swords on a lark. Mostly got started collecting and hunting whiskeys. Have some A&A work in the wings. An Albion Crecy buried someplace in their queue. An In'Carius Crafts project that might get done this year. No active plans for acquisitions beyond those projects.

2021 was a surprisingly decent year for the collection. What I received:

Davis Reproductions rondel dagger
Tod's Workshop spiderweb quillon dagger
Tod Cutler dirk
2 Tod Cutler knives

There's still the possibility 2 more items will come in this month: a David Reproductions Mainz gladius and scabbard and an A&A warhammer. More likely, those will come in early in 2022. Also early in 2022, a scabbard for my Albion Regent by Bill Grandy/Historical Handcrafts.

Also, several books came in this year, including Covering the Blade and the new publication in honor of David Edge. I haven't delved into either one yet.

2021 was pretty active:
- Rob Miller big basket hilt
- Valiant Suontaka
- Incarius XVI
- Sulowski XI

2022 is looking pretty quiet on the sword front. I recently traded my modern Challenger for a '71 Charger Super Bee (a life-long dream). It's in good shape but l'll probably sell some swords to finance upgrades.

Happy holidays to all.

Yes, The Moc sword is beautiful. The whole thing is nice but the scabbard looks especially authentic.

Not really sure for 2022. Have a Type XV from In'Carius Craft that should arrive sometime after the new year. Then sometime after that an Albion Crecy because it seems to be one of those swords that everyone has to have sooner or later. This must be my later. Then its probably back to armor. I have base kit and nice mail options but I un-grew out of most of the plate and brig parts of of my kit because my wife decided we would go Keto and cutting sugar just seems to be helpful. Which is to say, my wife apparently had a good idea!

To be 100% honest, this particular hobby has taken a back seat to numerous others (not to mention a bachelor's degree) since I bought my last sword in 2007, one of the first Albion Stamfords. I continue to check back on this forum at least once a week or so, to see what's going on, but I haven't been actively collecting swords. I wouldn't mind getting back into it this year.

I have an old ATrim bastard sword I would like to have upgraded with new hilt components. I don't know if anyone in the business still does anything like that, so if anyone has any recommendations, I'd like some.

I would definitely like to get a scabbard for the Stamford at some point-- I realize that sword is commonly-associated with the end of the Viking Era and Hastings, but given that the first crusades started only 30 years later, I wouldn't mind a scabbard and belt that would work for an early crusader. I haven't been keeping an eye on scabbard makers for years, so I need to reacquaint myself with who is still in that business.

As for something new-- I would like this to be the year I finally get a down payment put together for a custom XVIIIb longsword. Not sure who to reach out to just yet, but it's been a dream of mine for nearly 2 decades and I'd very much like to finally get a step closer to making that dream a reality.

Possibly an Albion Warwick, though I might wait to see what other hilts they have coming. Regardless, one of those is eventually coming to live with me. This might also be the year I make a complete package out of a custom A&A rapier I have; namely, a nice matching dagger, hanger, and scabbards. This is at least the third year I've said as much, so we'll see if I manage it.

I'll also probably be putting an Albion Dane, A&A Town Guard, pattern-welded Pikula sword, and a different custom A&A rapier up for sale. Partly to fund the above, partly because they should really be in homes where they'd spend less time in their boxes.

Happy new year, everyone!

Picked up a stiletto from Tod Cutler. Not sure about this year, the rondel from Landsknecht Emporium looks tasty.

Happy new year, folks!

Did I miss Roger's 'what's on your list' post for this year?

As expected it was a slow year for me - after a car purchase and moving, there was not a lot of hobby money left sitting around.

But toward the end of the year I picked up one of the new Windlass / Royal Armoury swords (the TOTO XVI), which exceeded my expectations, and a Del Tin Viking sword for play (met my expectations).

My policy is to sell a sword every time I buy one (to save money and avoid hording). The problem now, after collecting for 20 years, is that I've already tried all the types I like, and I already own my favorites. Its hard to find something I would rather have.

So for a while I might just get lower end swords that I can have fun with and then pass them on without pain.

But who knows what the future will bring.

I'm not sure Roger's made a post yet. Should we do it in his honor? Happy

Sounds good. Hopefully Roger sees this and does it himself - otherwise could be the 'Roger Hooper Memorial Report'. Wink

(just kidding about the memorial part, I hope he's fine)
