This may have been addressed before, so feel free to redirect me; but are there any US live steel groups out there that anyone could point me to?

Adrian Empire does live steel. Its mostly located in California and the southeast. It shares similarities with the SCA but we use rebated swords. There is also rapier and entry level longsword that uses shinai.
If you are interested, contact your local subdivision through the main website

Thank you for your quick reply, Tom. I rather like the look of Adrian Empire, but I am located in Mideastern Pennsylvania and have had little luck finding much information on the (not so) nearest chapter. But, then again; for what you love...

"Live" steel? They fight each other with sharpened weapons?

No. Adrian Empire fights with rebated steel, similar to many non-competitive reenactment groups.
