Hello all. I just finished reading this spot light topic and it got me thinking about a history channel show that aired about the time of this string. Part of the show was on a smith named Paul Champagne. I believe he passed away a couple years ago but he really got me interested in swords. I have searched for more information on him and have found none. I think he could have offered insight to this string as he gathered minerals in upper New York for steel and made swords as a smith might have in antiquity. Anyway I am interested if any of you know a bit about him and your opinions of his work. Thanks!
Scott Rodell of Great River Taoist Center was working closely with Paul at the time of his death and was just beginning to offer custom swords made by him. Scott has handled thousands of antique (Chinese) swords and was very familiar with Paul's work. I've found Scott to be very willing to discuss swords and his experiences at length so you might contact him. His website is www.grtc.org
I split this info into its own topic as it had little to do with the original thread. Also, his name is indeed spelled "Paul Champagne." See this remembrance on the ARMA site: http://www.thearma.org/Paul_Champagne.htm .
