Hello all,

We are currently opening the registrations for the Symposium d'Escrime de Québec 2010 or Quebec City's Fencing Symposium 2010. The one day event will take place in march 20. It is our second edition, and will no doubt be even better than last time. We have 8 instructors coming from all over the province teaching diverse workshops:

-Iaido
-Irish stick
-German longsword
-Sword and buckler
-Scottish baskethilt
-Long staff and pole weapons
-Dagger and wrestling
-Rapier
-Plus a two hour period of free exchange

Many of them (4 if I am not mistaken) are former students of Franck Cinato, one of the top players of I.33 studies in Europe (not much known here but I heard he deserves to be) and a serious contributor to HEMAC.

This year we'll be located in the heart of the fortified city, in a bicentenial building with victorian decor. If you ever wanted to see Quebec City and meet some new people having the same passion as you (as well as having a look to the other side of the language barrier), this is the time. There might even be a possibility of sleeping in the building for free, but I must confirm before.

And don't be afraid, even if it is mainly a French event, in a French city, mostly everyone speaks good English (the building is actually the English cultural Center) and you won't be left on your own.

For more info you can check the event's blog, I am finishing the whole translation now, the essential should be there. www.seq2010.wordpress.com

Bumping this one up because it should be a very interesting event and those in travel range should consider attending if they have the time.

I may not be able to go for logistics reasons ( not sure yet ) but I'm fairly sure that members of my group will be there as participants or instructors: There was a lot of good feedback about how much fun the previous event was.

Max gave our longsword group a seminar in his style of Japanese a while back and it was very useful to compare with German Longsword and it was a pleasure to meet him, learn from him and discuss martial arts. Wink Big Grin Cool

Oh, and lots of great food/restaurants in Quebec city. Wink

Small change in our schedule, the workshop on rapier is replaced by one on the messer, with the same instructor. Hope to see you there!

I really wish I could go to this, but I will be on vacation with my family for March break. It's not far for me (relatively) and the seminars are right up my alley enough for me to try and make due with my absolute lack of French.

Hopefully I'll make it next year.

So a great edition this year with an impressive response. Thanks to everyone for making it such a success. We are examining the possibility of making two editions per year, one in Quebec and the other in Montreal. Here are some pictures: http://s234.photobucket.com/albums/ee160/Empe...um%202010/

Glad to hear that it might also take place in Montreal and I recognized quite a few people in the pics. Big Grin Cool
