Up for sale is this custom Talhoffer-style buckler by Robert of Stokewood.
Few modern smiths have attempted this style, and I think few have done it as well as Robert.
I’m the first owner, and this buckler has not been used in either living history or training, but for display only.
I’ve include his original photos below. Note that Robert took the photo of the front of the buckler before riveting on the handle – the front now has two small rivets at the top and bottom of the buckler face.
The buckler is much as I received it, with some small sections of stabilised rust / patina on some of the unblackened sections. I chose to leave these as-is, as I think they add to the overall aesthetic; you might chose to polish them out with not much effort.
From Robert of Stokewood:
“This is a traditionally made Talhoffer style buckler based on the drawings from the manuscript. Raised in 16g steel, heated on a bellows-powered forge. The handle is made from twisted square stock and wrapped in leather which has been soaked and shrunken to the twisted pattern beneath creating a very strong and comfortable grip. A unique yet historically accurate piece.”
This piece is located in New Zealand, and will ship via NZ Post at cost with full insurance.
Price is US$130; payment via PayPal.
