Hello folks,

I have for sale a partially disassembled reproduction Han Dynasty Jian purchased new from China. This is not an expensive reproduction, but it was carefully selected because most of its components and features were close to historically accurate. The thread below has some information about how to reckon which of these reproductions are best. The most glaring problem with this sword is the blade length, which is several centimeters shy of most surviving examples. The blade is 58cm long and the overall length of the sword is 80cm. It fits very well in its scabbard although I forgot to take a picture of the two together.

I began by removing the modern cord that was wrapped around the grip and held the belt strap to the scabbard, and then I sanded the scabbard down to bare wood (quite a bit of work, that). I also sanded most of the "bronzing" chemical used on the metal components to reach the silvery surface below (I did not sand on the belt strap and the other components need to be gone over in the nooks and crannies). I think the metal is aluminum, and after realizing the dullness of its finish I considered silver plating it before the end or else really having to polish it... The rest of the plan was to proceed by lacquering the scabbard and then using leather to replace the removed cording. However, I'm very busy these days and this project fell by the wayside a while back - essentially I've lost interest in completing it.

I made the wall mount for the sword and was going to lacquer it along with the scabbard. Together it should make a handsome display. This sword cost about $55 on Ebay, and I would like $40 for it plus the wall mount, and that price includes shipping within the United States! Really I just want to pass this along to someone else who's interested in completing the project as they see fit, no profiteering involved... Cheers!

-Gregory
