The new and improved Albion Allectus is quite a cutting machine in its own right, and the blade edge as shipped was the very definition of ' sharp'.

Roman combat arms are by definition austere, however ancient Roman weapons embellishment has been seen, and it's with that in mind that this blade was so engraved.

Working from an image of a well preserved Roman Spatha [ from the Illerup Bog weapon find] with a rare engraving, that of a Roman god [ Mars ?] in gold leaf, Tom and I both thought it perfect for the Allectus, and all that remained was to find the appropriate blade legend for the opposite side. A little more research at RomanOfficer.com among the excellent relics and art work revealed the perfect blade legend [ in Old Latin, please forward your best-guess translation !].

Tom;
" Using examples from museums, a flattened ball shaped pommel was both a better shape for cutting, and also fully covered in the historical record. As the Albion pommel was made of a nice firm walnut it reshaped very well and incised lines were added that matched several examples in museums. With the small amount of weight removed from the pommel, the blade gained a bit more weight toward the tip, but the real improvement was from the pommel sliding over your palm and not interfering with the cut. It allowed for great improvement in handling and made cuts from many different angles easier."

The reproduction Maintz pattern scabbard has been aged and fits this blade perfectly. In all the Albion Gladius is the best made and most historically 'right' Roman period production sword on the market!

Please review the pictures and forward any questions you might have. This Albion Allectus, already a great sword, has found it's true personality etched in steel. Condition is excellent.

Price is 695.00 which includes shipping anywhere in the CONUS, payment by US Post Office MO or PayPal @ +3%

Thanks for looking !
