To pay for a trip to Peru I have decided that it is time to sell a dear olde friend.......... the Gassan Tanto.
Mail me if you are interested at around the £6000 mark
The blade is a Tanto in old shira saya,around 90% original polish. The inscription reads.........."Tei Shi Tsu In Gassan Sada Kazu Saku & Kakihan." {Sada Kazu of the imperial academy of art and craft made this. The Kakihan is the smiths personal seal}
"Taisho gennen nen hachi gatsu" {Made in the eigth month of the first year of Tiasho. 1912-1926 = August 1912}
" Etchu Kuni Go Fukuyama ju Nori Shige Sha" { A copy of the work of NoriShige who lived in the village of Go Fukuyama in the province of Etchu}
Made by the first living national treasure smith of Japan as a copy of the work of the great Koto swordsmith NoriShige, this has all the style and quality of NoriShige's work including his unique Pine bark Hada.
As I am sure you will agree, this is a unique piece, Gassan Blades are found quite often but one such as this must be a 'One off'30 year obsession
