This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available
This piece was conceived when I noticed that the hilt on Armour Class sword model VS4 -- often described as a native English/Saxon style of hilt -- was identical to one on a 13th century Scottish grave slab. This hilt style (Viking type V, I believe) is also found in Norway, and got me to thinking of a crossover Norse-Celtic piece. Since the Norwegians controlled the western isles of Scotland, I imagined this as a "historically plausible" sword for western Scotland or Ireland in the 10th-13th centuries.
Anyway, I asked Armour Class to add Celtic knotwork to the Viking hilt, and they did a fine job of decorating the pommel with both Celtic and Norse engravings. I apologize for the blurry picture, but it hopefully gets the idea across.
This is good work from the guys in Glasgow. The sword is light, fast, well-balanced, solidly built, and very sharp. I haven't cut with it, but my experience tells me it would perform admirably.
I'm sure I'll buy from Armour Class again at some point; the only reason this sword is for sale is that it is too light for my personal tastes. I have a surplus of muscle, and like my swords on the heavy side. I don't have a scale precise enough to weigh it, but I'd estimate it between 2 and 2-1/4 pounds. This is a very fast handling sword.
The rest of its vital stats are as follows:
Overall length: 36.5"
Blade length: 30.25"
Blade width: 2" at guard, 1" @ 2" behind point
Point of balance: 5" from guard
Center of Percussion: about 20" from guard
Black leather handle wrap.
Black leather scabbard (made by Armour Class; fits the sword well).
Here is a picture of the pommel:

The price is $400 firm, but that includes shipping in the con-US (Postal money order preferable). That's less than I paid, and about what you'd pay for the sword alone, without scabbard and engraving, at the current USD-GBP exchange rate.
Thanks for looking!
