For Sale: Armour Class Glasgow Hilt and Scabbard [SOLD]
This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available

I have an Armour Class Glasgow hilt sword and scabbard for sale. The sword has been customized a bit: red cloth basket liner removed, leather base pad added, heart piercings added to the lobes beneath the ram's horns. The scabbard is an Armour Class scabbard -- wood covered in black leather with iron fittings. The scabbard has also been customized a little, having the drag reshaped and the center metal band removed.

The sword and scabbard are used, but in very good condition with no rust or nicks to the blade. There are a few minor, light scratches on the hilt from carrying it about at reenactments.

These swords currently sell for about $880.00 new without the scabbard or shipping. I am wanting to get $765.00 (includes shipping) out of mine. Payment by money order or cashiers check, please.

I would also be willing to entertain offers of trade for well made 18th century style swords or early Saxon swords.

Thanks,
Chris

Hiya Chris,

Can't believe your wanting to sell this beauty. Sure ya' have a good reason though.

(For those interested, I've had a hand on this and it's a wonderful blade).

Bill,

You know how it is... got to pare down on a few blades to make room for bigger and better ones. Still, I will hate to part with this one.

I have a dirk and sgian ochles I will be posting when I get more time. Supporting my sword habit can really be painful at times!

Chris, Armour Class sells this sword with a choice of two blades: sharp, or a blunt for reenactment. Can you tell me which blade your sword has?

Cheers!

Pat,

Thanks for your inquiry. The sword I have has the sharpened blade, though I need to add that the previous owner stated he had dulled the edge a bit so it is now only semi-sharp. It is certainly capable of being brought back to a razor's edge, but I do not believe it could be made dull enough for reenactment use.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Chris

Indeed it helps!
Ever since I started reading Thomas Macdonald's postings a couple of years ago, I've had the 'baskethilt bug'! I just haven't been able to afford one -- until today!

I'm sending you a PM.

cheers!

The UPS fellow arrived this morning with a long brown box!
Beautiful sword!

Yup.... I'm going to have to get another baskethilt, just to keep this one from feeling lonely, surrounded by my longswords!

Congrats Patrick! knew you'd love it. Saw Chris tonight and he said that you had finally received the sword.

Mind readers! You're all mindreaders!

:D Now how'd you know I'd love it? :p 'Cuz I do!
Funny thing is that I showed it to a friend of mine, who's seen and handled my longswords before. He's appreciated their utilitarian simplicity, but when I showed him this baskethilt, he was speechless -- except for repeated exclamations of "WOW!" and "Fantastic!"

He's a carpenter by trade, a jack-of-all-trades by nature, and given his experience, he can really appreciate the beauty of fine metalwork. This baskethilt left him stunned, a completely different reaction to what he's had to my longswords. Wait till he sees my next baskethilt! ;)

OOPS! Did I really say 'next one'? Uh oh....
