This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available
Bought this shirt last summer from Purpleheart Armory. I bought it because some of the AEMMA guys recommended it as some of the best inexpensive maille in it's price range. I haven't gotten a chance to use it for anything other than putting it on a few times, and now I'm changing my mind about building a 14th century transitional harness. I'm going for 15th century gothic, and instead would prefer an arming coat with maille reinforcements to a whole shirt.
This shirt can fit a lot of different sizes. I'm 6' 2" and 140 lbs (yes, I know, I'm a skinny little punk), and it covers 3/4 of my thighs, and mid-forearm. A person who was much big width wise than me (which just about everyone is) would have no problems with it, however it would probably come down to 1/2 thigh instead. The maille will easily "stretch" to fit larger frames. It's galvanized steel, I believe.
Originally paid about $600, I'm asking $550, and I'll pay for the shipping. Purpleheart no longer carries it, and it's in brand new condition. It looks a lot like the MRL rivetted maille shirt, though I've heard this particular one has much higher quality rivets. I can't say for certain, though I do know that MRL charges a lot more.

Can you post few pictures of the weave and the riveted links? Or point to the original seller if they have appropriate pictures.
That will be most helpful.

HI Bill,
Is the inner diameter of the links 10mm or 8mm?
Sorry to keep bugging you with details.

Bump.
If no one buys it, I may actually try cutting it up to make the fauld and armpits of an arming coat. But I certainly don't have time for that any time soon, so I'd much rather sell it.

Looks a bit like stuff being offered by Valentine Armoury as well.
Wonder if its all coming from the same place?
Since AEMMA folks recommended it, did they suggest it would be durable enough for sparring with wasters?

Not specifically, but I'll speak for it myself. It will definatly hold up to wasters, but you and your partner definately still need to practice control. The maille will hold up fine, but a good solid hit can still cause blunt trauma underneath, especially if not properly padded.
I believe David Cvet was the one who said on SFI that they'd used there's extensively for armored combat and for dagger combat, though it was well over a year ago, so I don't really remember.
