This is a Stunning and scarce 17th century Extendable rapier, only other similar mechanism example I have seen is in the Royal Armouries in Leeds. It appears the grip is a later replacement which is very common on 17th century swords of all kind, the blade is marked clearly Johann Benivigt el Alamania. Making the blade German made and the rapier itself most likely used in Spain. The blade extends to 140cm, the guard and rest of the fittings are clearly forged and there is some light damage to the pierced hilt.
Price is £2700 for such a unusual piece, please email me at knightofengland@hotmail.co.uk if interested. I am interested in trading or px for other Arms & Armour European or Japanese.
