Custom A&A / Josh Davis 16th C longsword
This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available

Up for sale is this custom A&A 16th C longsword, based on an original in the Kolnishces Stadtmuseum. This piece was primarily made by Josh Davis during his time at A&A.

The sword also comes with a wood-lined, leather-covered scabbard (hand-stitched) and suspension made by Josh, which has hand-finished diagonal line accents (as in Durer woodcuts) and a custom chape with acorn finial. I don't have photos of this on file, but happy to take some on request.

From A&A's original description:

Quote:
16th C. Longsword
A replica of an elegant sword in the Kšlnisches Stadtmuseum (City Museum of Koln)
that one of our craftsman saw on a recent trip. The sword was crafted as a study and
practice piece and turned out very well. The sword is surprisingly fast for its size and
weight. The real attraction on this piece is the detailing of the hilt done with chisels
and strikes to match the original and the complex shaping of the pommel. It is truly a
fantastic example of this style of hilt.

The hilt is hand formed steel and the grip is hardwood covered in black leather with a
heavy ribbing under the leather in the fore grip. There is a larger under rib near the
front of the grip and the leather is stitched up the seam. The guard arms end in
knobs that reflect the form of the pommel and are detailed with a cross hatch
pattern.

This sword is full of great hand forged detail and would be an exceptional piece in
any collection. A rare opportunity to add a custom sword to your armoury with no
waiting and at a great price.

Original: First half of the 16th C.Kölnisches Stadtmuseum, Germany
Overall Length: 48.25" Blade Length: 37.75" Blade Width: 2" Grip Length: 7.75"
Center of Gravity: 4" Weight: 3.7bs/1700gr

Price for the total package of custom sword plus scabbard and suspension is US$1950; payment is via PayPal.

This sword will ship via New Zealand Post's International Courier. This is fast, reliable, reasonably priced, and fully tracked and insured; swords usually arrive to the US and Europe in less than a week.

Here are some pics of the scabbard - apologies for the poor photo quality, which doesn't do justice to Josh's amazing work.

Note the hundreds of hand-made diagonal lines, replicating detail we see on some of Durer's images of scabbards of this time.
