FOR SALE
Replica of the Rovaniemi sword from the Helsinki University collection, c.1050-1100 onwards.
Oakeshott type XI.
Featured in Oakeshott's Sword in the Age of Chivalry and on p.59 of Records of the Medieval Sword.
I bought this recently but find that I don't really have a gap in my collection for it to fill and already have a Barta sword - so offer it back up for sale.
Condition is pretty much as new from Pat bar some trivial wear to one side of the pommel from rubbing on clothing or maille. Sharp pattern welded blade has a nice live figure, iron hilt with same and beautiful cross. Blade with iron inscriptions, +GICELINMEFECIT+ and +INNOMINEDOMINI+. Comes with scabbard and integral belt.
Patrick's work is second to none and, as far as I know, remains one of the only ways to obtain a sword from a smith who starts by making his own bloom and working iron and steel from scratch to create as close to an original sword as possible.
More photographs and details of the inlay, etc are here http://myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=231...ight=barta
I am offering this up more or less for what I paid without the shipping, duty & VAT costs to get it over from the states; which is less than Pat's new price without a 5 year wait.
£1250 plus postage to UK or Euro.
Paypal gift an option.
