Ive had this cabasset for many years, its maker is unknown but I suspect its a 19th century creation versus a period piece, it does display nicely though. This helmet type/style is showcased on Wade Allen's website. http://www.allenantiques.com/A-81.html
The white residue is from a botched attempt at preserving the metal when I was 16 y/o, (about 23 years ago).
A bit of acetone and Ren. Wax should take care of it.
