Here's a Windlass brass hanger hilt for your 18th c. or fantasy project. It's a very solid and plain guard and pommel with threaded capstan nut. Everything here is brass with an antique-style patina. It should easily polish bright. There's lots of room for filing or other reshaping to suit your taste.

I'd consider straight or partial trades of steel guards and pommels.
