This German naval officer's saber was recently aquired from an avid collector. The hilt shows minor wear to the highlights with virtually 100% of the matte, honey-gold frosted fire gilding remaining in the recesses of the well-detailed lion head pommel with red and green, Port and Starboard, glass eyes, floral pattern backstrap, and oak-leaf ferrule. The folding lancet is also decorated with a matching oak leaf/acorn motif and has the word "Bushardt" engraved on the other side. The grip has aged to a creamy off-white color and is complete with original twisted brass wire wrap. The beautiful damascus blade measures 31.5 inches in length and shows surface wear with several small spots of gray spotting to the obverse but no pitting or nicks to the cutting edge and, is complete with original buffer pad. The steel scabbard shows light surface wear with little rust near the upper portion. Personal engravings include "GES GESCH" on the bottom of the ferrule.
