Hi All,
I have the following item up for sale. Custom projects necessitate selling a few items.
A Darryl Guertin Keicho Shinto Tanto made in 1070 steel forged in a U no Kubi Zukuri style. The blade is 12 inches long from the tsuba.
At the end of the Koto or beginning of the Shinto era, in the Keicho period (1596), there was a resurgence of interest in swords of the Nambokucho period, about 250 years previous. Most of the actual Nambokucho period swords had been cut down to one extent or another, so what you wind up with in Keicho-Shinto style is a copy of a cut down sword. These have large points, little taper in width, and relatively shallow sori; the bulk of the curvature, and taper having been cut off from the original swords that the copies were made from. This blade is forged in U no Kubi Zukuri (cormorant’s neck), which is like Shinogi zukuri in the belly of the blade (close to the nakago), and Shobu Zukuri in the upper part.
I originally bought this to be paired with the Guertin katana in U no Kubi Zukuri. This tanto has never cut anything and is EXTREMELY SHARP!! I am the original owner.
Specifications:
Blade length (from Tsuba): 12 inches
Overall Length: 23 inches
Saya Length: 17 inches
Tsuka Length: 5.75 inches
Menuki, Fuchi and Kashira: Dragonfly themed
Tsuba: Musashi-style (double cucumber)
Steel: 1070
I am looking for $400 and I will include shipping, handling and insurance to you (CONUS). If you live outside the US, shipping is on you.
If you’re interested, let me know.
Thanks,
Jeff :D
