For sale:
Used CAS Iberia 'Get Dressed for Battle' replica of the early medieval helmet found in Ultuna Sweden, one of the classic 'crested' helmets of the so-called Vendel Period in Scandinavia during the late sixth to early 8th centuries. Weighing about 7 lb. the helmet is made from heavy gauge steel like the original. The helmet bowl is made up by criss-crossed bands of steel riveted together between a wide steel brow band and central ridge band terminating in a nose guard at the front, just like the original piece. A heavy black cowhide leather interior shell lies beneath the riveted bands. The central ridge band is surmounted by a solid brass crest terminating in stylized dragon heads at either end. Six hinged neck protectors imitating a head of long hair run around the sides and back, again like the actual piece. Nice soft cream leather suspension lining and heavy duty chin straps with buckle. Interior measurements of the steel helmet shell are 7 1/2 inches side to side x 9 inches front to back, with and interior circumference within the leather lining of 24 1/2 inches, for medium or smaller heads. This is not one of the knock-offs of unknown quality currently offered by many Indian makers, but the original CAS Iberia product which is no longer readily available. Some chips in the black interior anti-rust paint job on the neck guards, and some brown residue on the interior leather from the contact cement used to install the lining when originally made, but externally in virtually never used condition.
