I recently took this fine cabasset in trade. It’s a bit small for me but I wanted it for a colonial American display. It looks like I won't have time for that project for at least a year, so I'm putting the helmet on the block.
This is a solid, small (inside lining circ. of 22.25”) and extremely well-made helmet. It includes a beautiful and historically correct lining and plated straps. It is exactly the helmet #68 shown on the website of its Czech maker, Tomala: http://www.tomala.lublin.pl/index.php?strona=...mp;lng=eng
The helmet is listed there as "spring steel" and I can witness that it is a very substantial piece bearing no resemblance to the thin, light cabassets often seen on the market today. This piece is ready for the field, and would be a fantastic addition to any late 16th/ early 17th c. kit, or as a stand-alone display. Early colonial English, Irish wars, Spanish conquest, ECW, Elizabethan infantry, etc.
The maker lists this piece at €210 plus shipping. I’ve recently checked helmet shipping to Europe, and estimate the total replacement cost of this helmet to be approximately $330-350 including shipping from the Czech Republic to the US.
I’m offering this helmet for $250, shipped CONUS. Paypal only.
