The heavy cutting I refer to is mainly field work and self defence. I enjoy period style outings (camping/ hunting trips) with the accompianing weapons, shelters, and clothing. Not so long ago on such an outing, a black bear came right across my camp as I slept. The bear ran off when I jumped up, but I realized then and there that my bow and hatchet were of little use at such a range and against such a foe. That said, what I am looking for is a 35- 40" heavier (3-4lb) sword, single edged, preferably in the grosse messer style or other. I may also be interested in bearded axes and lighter bastards.
Maybe Albion berserkr? A little lighter than you wish but still powerful cutting tool.
