Medieval Reproductions Viking Helmet

Original: Circa 970 AD

Manufactured by Peter Fuller of Medieval Reproductions, this helm is inspired by an original discovered in a grave mound in Gjermundbu, Norway. The original is dated to the 10th century, roughly 970 AD. This original is the only helm that can positively be identified as a distinctively "Viking" helm.

This modern interpretation is made of 16 gauge mild steel in the "Spangen" fashion. This method of construction typically consists of four skull-plates that are connected by riveting them to reinforcing bands. The helm's distinctive "spectacle-shaped" faceplate may be seen as a vestigial holdover from earlier Vendel culture designs. A period-correct liner and chinstrap have also been installed by the maker.
