The heaviest battle axes
How much was the weight of the heaviest battle axes used in the medieval times? And who used it (would be the Huscarls?)?
Waldman's book lists a gigantic Russian axe that weighs around eight and a half pounds.

I suspect few axes meant for combat were heavier than that.

The "Danish" two-handed axe used by the Anglo-Saxon house-carls was relatively light as compared to later medieval pole-axes used by armoured warriors in foot combat. I listed the weights for two later medieval pole axes on this this recent thread:

I hope this helps!

Benjamin, I think that you are talking about the famous bardiches.

By the way, the weight of the halberd used by the middle east soldiers in medieval times had some difference of the 4 to 6 pounds of the european ones? And if anyone could show some pictures of this I will be very thankful.

Check this thread:

And no, they didn't seem to have differed substantially in weight from the European examples.
I'm not a weapon specialist, but I can see clearly that these halberds differ significantly from the european counterparts in the way of use in battle. I think that these weapons were more likely to be used as big pole axes like bardiches or voulges. What do you think?
