Hello!
I've been doing a research project into the different types of armour and weapons that were used in the First Crusade (specifically during the Siege of Jerusalem (1099)). I've been looking through this site, but I can not find an area where a list of sorts has been created detailing which weapons were used/invented during which dates. Can anyone here help me locate an appropriate thread or another site which might help me on this matter? Thanks.

Andrew,
Hello and welcome to myArmoury. There is no one article that covers this subject. However, if you look through the various Oakeshott spotlight articles and our article on Ewart Oakeshott, you'll be able to see examples of swords in use during that period and find more info on them. Sword types in use include Types X and XI and their subtypes.
Generally, though, the typical knight was clad in a mail hauberk (shirt). Mail chausses (leggings) were not yet common (I don't think). Shields would have been similar to Norman kite shields or evolutions of them. Helms would have been holdovers from the Norman era, namely conical helms often with nasals. It's not really until the mid 12th century that helms evolve much beyond that.
There's a lot of great info in books, too. Have a look at our Bookstore for more information. A good general title, though out of print, is Arms & Armor of the Medieval Knight.

The equipment pictured here would still be standard for the first crusade.
