With 2800 color pictures and 600 b&w, 780 pages in a very large format, Manouchehr's book has to be the ultimate when it comes to Iranian (Persian) arms and armour. I don't know of anything THAT big when it comes to European stuff. You'd have to combine a couple of Boccia's books to get into the same ballpark. How did you ever talk a publisher into such a book?
P.S. Thanks for the compliment! The 'german gothic' suit is nearly 20 years old, though, and I need to make another one up to my current standards.

Thank you very much for your kind words James. My book is based on over 800 references among them many Iranian sources like the works by Dr. Khalatbari, Dr Negahban, etc. I also introduce the royal collections of 10 Iranian museums for the first time. You can see for the first time excavated Parthian and Sassanian swords. So my publisher was and is very interested and we have had an excellent cooperation. Many scholars in Iran and outside contributed to my research and book and also the team of Legat Publishers, I am really thankful to all of them. Thanks again for your kind words.
That is a nice German Gothic suit really. I am looking foward to the next one.

Take a look at this beautiful armor. It is really unbelievable, what European armour makers were capable of doing. I was really speechless.

Thanks, Manouchehr! I for one am certainly enjoying looking at these armours. Sadly, in the Anglo-centric English-speaking world, there are far too few illustrations or photographs of these armours, so thank you for posting them. Keep them coming!

I have seen some really nice medieval armour from out of there so am planning a trip there. Have you come across it yet in your visits? I saw a picture with a long rack just loaded with helmet.... I wish that was at my house!

hi there,
thanks for more excellent eye candy from this impressive collection.
i notice that the steel of the blade pictured above has numerous scratches on it as if it had been sanded with relatively coarse paper. is this likely a finish given to it during recent 'cleaning' attempts or is it more likely a period finish which the blade was given? it seems to my eye to be a relatively rough finish on an otherwise very fine blade.

Randall,
I was couple of times in this wonderful museum and each time the location looks different. Even between my December and February visit. I have almost taken pictures of the most pictures on exhibition there, which I will share here. I am afraid that I have not seen a long rack loaded with helmet. But I have taken pictures of many helmets and I will post them on this thread. This collection is really magic. I love Paris, a wonderful city, nice people, nice cafes, the way of life, everything, and I think this museum makes Paris even more interesting. :-)

You are very welcome Adam. You raise a very interesting question. I have no answer for this. Given the importance of this sword and comparing this to the sword attributed to Charlemagne in the Musée du Louvre (I posted the pics on another thread), one notices that the blade of the sword of Charlemagne has a perfect mirror polish. It is awe-inspiring to see such an old blade in such a wonderful condition. There is no wonder as it is, of course, a coronnation sword. Back to this sword, I cannot imagine that a period finish could have been given to such a beauty. On the other hand, the curators of Musée du Armée are very professional and would not do that to a blade. I have no idea what it is to be honest.

Nice armour pictures!!! I will be saving that one!. That is a nice set of early full arms. After all the great pictures of arms and armour kept here I have to go visit in person. It seems they allow pictures so I will have to charge all my batteries and empty my card and go a photo taking.
