Merry Christmas, Folks!
A question for you (and I apologize if this has been addressed before my tenure on the Forum): What would be the average weight of a Scottish backsword blade? I know this is generic but I just want a range. I am working on a project to convert a commercial, overeweight blade to a more authentic style and weight. Fullers have been added, the profile narrowered, and a lot of "with the grain" filing to remove excess metal. The blade started at 1lb 13 oz and is now 1lb 8 oz. My goal is about 1lb 6 oz. What you you think?

Hi George,
I think you can get some stats from some of the Eljay- and Vince Evans swords if you do a little math on the stats provided by Mac in his picturetrail. The beautyful Stirling hilted backsword with silver inlay by Eljay, which was bought by Nathan from Mac, had a blade weighing 1lb. 7 1/2 oz.
Good luck!
By the way, what kind of blade is it that you are upgrading?(what producer?)
Have a nice and peaceful holliday.
Cheers,
Henrik
Constant and true.
