ISMAC 2007!
Hello,

The International Swordfighting and Martial Arts Convention continues to grow as we enter our 8th year of bringing together the finest instructors from around the world! After making some exciting new additions the web site is up at
http://artofcombat.org/public/thespis/Convention/aocflyer.htm

The dates this year are July 12-15. That's right, we are moving up two weeks earlier this year. Mark your calendar and schedule your time off now! Why the change? Because…

WE ARE MOVING!!!!

Now it is will be easier to get to. ISMAC is extremely proud to announce our move to the Detroit area in Michigan! It will be the most exciting year, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there to celebrate our move. The Marriott Pontiac at Centerpoint is a gorgeous hotel with beautiful rooms. All classes will be held in the convention rooms of the hotel, and all of the instructors and staff will be staying there. See their website for info on the hotel! http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/DTWPO

Our new home will allow us to continue offering everything you have come to expect from ISMAC, such as:

- AMAZING VARIETY OF CLASSES with over 60 classes during the four days. You will have the most opportunity and greatest variety of classes offered at a WMA workshop! ISMAC let’s you choose how in depth you want to study; you can take 6 different 1.5 hour classes per day to get a taste of a variety of weapons or focus all your energy into one area with a 9 hour Master Class Block as well as every combination in between.

- ALL SKILL LEVELS will find great classes catered to your abilities. As you saw last year, there are now 5 classes per time slot to choose from all weekend! These are broken up into two blocks of regular classes running concurrently with two blocks of 3 hour master classes and a block of 4 ½ hour Maestro classes. Check the website to see how last year’s schedule was laid out. This will give you an idea of the great variety of classes that will be offered. You will also find descriptions of each type of class you can take.

-MASTER CLASS BLOCKS give you the opportunity to spend all 9 hours of each day taking 3 master classes in a row that all share a common theme so you are working on the same principle all day. Last year saw blocks concentrating on Entering the fight in two handed sword and the Offensive use of Tempo in Italian Rapier play. You will find some exciting new blocks this year.

- PRIVATE LESSONS with our instructors will continue to be offered. These were created for ISMAC 2003 and continue to be a huge success (and have been incorporated into most major WMA workshops now). We are excited to continue offering this opportunity for personal one on one training.

- TOURNAMENTS will continue, but start a little earlier each night. We will once again have a Knife tournament on Friday night, a Rapier/Smallsword tournament on Saturday night and a Singlestick tournament on Sunday.

- DEMOS AND PRESENTATIONS will happen during the lunch breaks everyday.

If you are a serious Western Martial Artist, then ISMAC is the place for you. We work hard all day and play harder every night. See you in July!

Sincerely,
Jared Kirby
Picture Gallery is now online
Hello,

It has been 5 years in the works, but we have finally completed the image gallery for all the previous years of ISMAC!

Just go to the frontpage ( http://artofcombat.org/public/thespis/Convention/aocflyer.htm ) and click on the link (“A Gallery of Images from past Events”). This takes you to the Image gallery frontpage and a shortcut to the images for 2006. At the bottom of this page is the link to all the previous years as well (or you can go directly there http://www.gdt.smugmug.com/International%20Sw...onvention)

There are all kinds of great features here, such as voting for your favorite images and adding comments, as well as RSS feeds and the like. There is even a way to order quality prints and other items.

We have tried to name everyone and describe every photograph, but our efforts have not met with complete success. If you know any missing names or descriptions while you are looking through the galleries, please let us know. Our goal in completing this is that you may then do a search by name and find all of the photos.

Enjoy!

ISMAC registration is now open!
Hello,

Registration is now open for ISMAC 2007 in Detroit, MI and the tentative schedule is now online!

Normal registration is still available for $110 (early registration) and then you can add the maestro/master classes of your choice.
For our intermediate and advanced participants we will offer the new Easy Pass option again. You will be able to pay one flat fee and take any class you would like.
The Master Class pass is $325 which includes your registration fee and any master classes you want to take.
The Maestro Class pass is $400 and includes your registration fee and any maestro or master classes you would like to take.
At ISMAC these advanced classes are limited in size in order to get more out of it then at any other WMA workshop. Please know your limitations, and only sign up for classes you will be taking (you are required to participate in any classes that you sign up for). Every year there is a waiting list of people that want to be in these classes.

Remember, ISMAC is now four days (starting on Thursday). Please join us Thursday night for an Opening Night Dinner with the instructors. We have made arrangements for a buffet style dinner at the Marriott that will far surpass the meal last year. The evening will include entertainment arranged by Art of Combat, so you won’t want to miss the fun. You need to register in order to join us for the festivities, so make sure to sign up for it during the registration process.

Don’t forget to make your reservations at the Marriott early. The hotel will fill quickly and all the fun will happen there. See you in July!

Take care,
Jared Kirby

ISMAC classes filling up!
Hello,

We are less than a month away from the early registration deadline (April 15th) and several master classes are nearly full. At ISMAC these advanced classes are kept to a small number of participants so that the instructors can cover more material and you can get added personal instruction. As these classes close there will be announcements posted on the ISMAC Bulletin Board. Master and Maestro classes are first come, first serve so get your registration in asap!

We also want you to know that, unfortunately, Brian McIlmoyle will not be able to attend ISMAC this year. Fortunately, Dave Cvet has confirmed that he will be filling in and Kel Rekuta will be assisting him. These master classes on Fiore will remain the same.

Take care,
Jared Kirby

ISMAC early registration deadline draws near
Hi,

Just a quick reminder that the early registration deadline is drawing near. After April 15th the registration price increases by $40.

The Easy Pass option has been very popular once again, but this option will no longer be available after the early registration deadline of April 15th has passed.

If you are planning on attending ISMAC, get your registration in now and save some money!

ISMAC's Col. Dwight McLemore Scholarship winner
This was easily the most difficult year with the number of applications doubling over 2006. The applicant pool was comprised of deeply worthy individuals, making the decision process tremendously challenging for the scholarship committee and left the members wishing that ISMAC had more than one available scholarship to provide.

We are proud to announce the winner of the 3rd annual Col. Dwight McLemore Scholarship for ISMAC is:

Bill D. Murphree

The committee wishes to thank all the applicants for their efforts and extend a big congratulations to Bill!

Sincerely,
Jared Kirby
Hello,

If you are planning on attending ISMAC I would recommend getting your registration in soon. Some Master/Maestro classes have already closed and, for the most part, the remainder of them only have one or two spots left in them. In many cases the next person to register will close that class. Please check the online schedule and the bulletin board for the most recent closures before you register. The last registration deadline is coming up quickly and after June 30th the price goes up by $50.

If you are attending ISMAC but don't have a roommate, our unique hotel forum will let you chat with those in the same predicament. This makes it easy to connect with other participants and save a little money. Go to the website at http://artofcombat.org/public/thespis/Convention/hotels.htm and log onto the hotel forum. Just post your message or respond to someone already there.

Sometimes shuttling to and from a workshop venue can cost as much as the workshop itself! We have set up a shuttle service this year to help keep the travel cost down. Most of the time slots are still open. The van will take you from the airport to the hotel and back. It is $10 each way (cabs cost $75 each way) and you will need to register in advance at http://artofcombat.org/public/thespis/Convent...ration.htm

We'll see you in a little over a month!

Sincerely,
Jared Kirby

Hello,

I wanted to let everyone know that we are hoping to have all (or at least a bunch) of pictures from ISMAC 2007 online by the end of December. We made it a goal to get pictures of every class, which means we have many more images then in years past (and a lot more work to get them up).

I would also like to take this opportunity to announce the tournament winners from ISMAC 2007.

On Friday night, the Knife Tournament results were:

1st place - Neko Kelly
2nd place - Jan Freitag
3rd place - Mike Reynolds

On Saturday night, the Rapier Tournament results were:

1st place - William Elder
2nd place - Andrew Telesca
3rd place - Adam Simmons

On Sunday night, the Singlestick Tournament results were:

1st place - Mike Nericcio
2nd place - Bruce Aller
3rd place - Tom Badillo

Thank you to all those who participated!

Sincerely,
Jared Kirby
