Hello all!

Marc-Antoine Jean,
Did you take the drawing out of Claude Blair's European Armour Circa 1066 to Circa 1700? If not, or for others that don't have access to the information, here's the caption from the drawing in the "Details of Armour Figs. 67-300":
Claude Blair wrote:

114. Sallet with Bevor attached, probably by Lorenz Helmschmied of Augsburg, c. 1490. M.M.N.B.-At least one gorget-plate is missing.

M.M. is Claude Blair's abbreviation for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. If that piece is still there, the Met may have some additional information. The information may be available on their website. (N.B. was just Blair's abbreviation for when he didn't list or didn't have the catalogue numbers.)

I hope this was at least slightly helpful!

Stay safe!
Looks like it's this one. I don't think there was much additional info in the book from the MET that this scan is from, if there is I'll post it when I get back home tonight.

Very beautifull helmet.I like the shape of those late saladas+bevor. That is a pity it is too late period even for me ;)

Do you have any pictures of earlier bevors with breathing holes?
Well then, the only additional information in the book was that the brass trim (what survives of it at least) on the helmet matches that on a suit of armour in the Rüstkammer in Vienna, which is known to have been made for Emperor Maximilian I.

Michal: doesn't seem so I'm afraid.
I'm full of admiration for the man that devised it.

This sallet is as protective as an armet, while retaining the practicality of the sallet, as well as having the plus protection of the back tail.

It reminds me of a japanese helm with its kabuto.

:)
