Generation 2's Newest Bowie Knife
The newest knife will be the Searles Bowie which was made for Rezin Bowie by Daniel Searles of Baton Rouge.

Later it is believed that Rezin gave this knife to H.W. Fowler, of the U.S. Dragoons.

The original is on display at the Alamo.

The Proto-type is in. There will have to be some slight changes.
1. Rick has suggested the handle to be darker.
2. The notch in the back of the blade going into the guard need to be more pronounced.

I will post some teaser pictures later.

OUTSTANDING!
A beautiful knife, and a great choice.

As I recall, the blade of the Fowler/Searles Bowie is said to be 9-1/4 inches.
Have you considered making the blade an inch or so longer - closer to the Stafford/Searles Bowie, but still short of the 12 inches on the Juan Seguin D-guard Searles?

It is still going to be 9 1/4" on the blade as per the drawing from Rick Baer.

Now the "D" Guard Bowie may be something we still might do. I have been kicking it around. We will still have 1 more to do in this 4 knife collection. I can not say what it will be.
But, later as a stand alone knife I have thought about doing the "D" Guard.

Handle of Searles Bowie
Hey, Clyde.

Shouldn't the handle be aligned closer to the back of the blade, allowing room for a proper notch?
It's that alignment that makes the Searles so attractive - and distinctive.

Forgive my photoshopping, but here's what I mean...........

Searles suggestion.jpg
my humble suggestion
As stated earlier the notch is there but in the picture it was hidden from the view the picture was taken. And we were asked to make it more pronounced.

I am waiting further instructions from Rick and it was made according to the drawings he made. I am going to have a phone conference with him later this week and ask him about the position of the handle.

Thank you for bringing that up.
