Hello, I am in search of any information on this sword, It was recovered in Switzerland and measures 28.5 inches long. it weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces. It is about two inches across at its widest and a little over a quarter of an inch thick. I would like to find out about its age and origin. Thanks, Art

Welcome to myArmoury.com, Art. I have never seen anything like your sword before. The blade actually looks more to me like a long spear head, rather than a sword blade. The handle cross section also seems very small ....

About the sword. the handle shown is just some heavy cotton cord to make the tang more graspable. it is not original. The pommel is peined over and is clearly a part of the original piece. I figure that the original handle was wood or leather, something organic which has decomposed away long ago. The piece has uncanny balance. It feels like an extension of the arm . the accompanying picture shows the original and one I've had made by a couple of friends. One a very talented blacksmith who did the rough forging out of oil hardening spring steel, and the other who put the finish on it all with stones. no power tools involved. I've had the replica made as an officers sword or perhaps a presentation piece. it has a 24k gold inlay with a cabachon burmese ruby inset. and cocobolo handle with .999 silver beaded discs on the ends. On the original the pommel and guard are both wrought iron. The striations are clearly visible. The blade of the original is quality steel of some kind.
