Does anyone know of a source of reasonably accurate hats of the English Civil War and 30 Years War era? I am looking for a something like a broad brimmed cavalier style with a high, flat-topped crown. ECW reenactment sites often show people with these hats, yet I can't find any that I like the look of.

Thanks,
Shae

Take a look at some of these...

http://www.sykesutler.com/ Go to the clothing page- About midway down. Really friendly, but closed until the end of the month.

http://www.dirtybillyshats.com/ Very nice hats

http://www.hatcrafters.com/page6.htm Tons of hats

http://muscovytrading.com/images/inventory/ I don't think they show them on the website, but Muscovy recently started blocking high-crowned Elizabethan/ECW hats. I bought one over the summer & its really nice and sturdy. I think they mostly do the high crowned hats custom, but I know they had a few on display in their shop. A custom high-crowned felt hat w/ pin, etc. runs about $70.00 there. Really nice people.

http://www.snoods.com/hats.html Some of these might work if trimmed, etc.

You may also want to take a look at www.clearwaterhats.com
Though the website does not have 17th century styles listed the print catalog does.

Shae,

I don't know if they they have them in the states, but try and find a re-enactors fair, someone at one will do what you're after.

Check on the Jas. Townson web-site. They have stuff usable for the ECW.

www.jastown.com

also may check with G.Gedney Godwin or Smoke & Fire on line.

Thanks a lot guys. Some of those links are very helpful. The Syke Sutler website looks especially nice.
