Before and after pictures
Well, more like in-progress since it isn't finished yet. This will be my first katana, one that I picked out from that group of Rick's bare blades. It was in first batch of blades that I watched be clayed and heat treated, and has a hako type of hamon if I remember correctly. It shows up as number three below. Then we have it in its current state near the stage to begin the foundation polish. Might have one belt to go through before we start polishing. I have only just started doing some polishing on the first stone, but I hope that I can do a large chunk of the foundation polish for it. Finally we have the habaki for it. Which I did the rough forging work, then Rick turned it into something. *G* I started looking at as many pictures of swords and fittings as I could, and happened upon this design from an original Moses Bercerra has on his site. Nothing totally nailed down for the rest of the fittings, but there will be some unique things going on.

I'm sure it will be very cool when complete. Please keep sharing pictures as you get them.
Good choice
Out of those the one you picked is the one I like the look of the best.
A real nice blade you've got there, Shane. I'd like to have one like that. Ofcourse, I'd be happy as a hog in... something... to have any of those blades pictured. On a side note, and meaningless, but the blade shape of the one you have is very much what I always pictured on the fictional Wheel of Time Heron Mark blade (which I've always been enamored of for its seeming blend of Eastern and Western style swords).

Will keep watching to see how your blade comes along. :)
Thanks Guys,

Worked on the fuchi for this one today, going with a fairly simple textured copper one. Going with a green ito, mint as Rick as named it. The kashira will be buffalo horn and the ito will wrap around the end of it. Also started pounding out some wrought iron today for a tsuba. I haven't decided on the saya color though, thinking either dark green, black, or plum brown.

Shane
