I have the book "The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna: The Imperial and Ecclesiastical Treasury" (1998), and it has a photo of this orb and top of the sceptre (made around 1612 - 1615). Unfortunately, there is no such sword in a book. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Extant 15th Century German Gothic Armour
Extant 15th century Milanese armour
Arming doublet of the 15th century

Okay I don't have a source for which one, but I seem to recall in one of Oakshott's books that there was a sword used for the Emporer's coronation that was used up through the 20th century. I seem to recall that it looked somewhat like the one in the graphic you posted, but I don't know exactly what link to go for it other than I seem to recall it is still existant in some Austrian Musuem.

This is all from recollection, so take it as possibly just the ramblings of an old man who can't recall things right. :-)

Good luck in your search,

I believe you are thinking of The Sword of Saint Maurice in Vienna, which appears as XI.4 in 'Records of the Medieval Sword' and can be seen on this site. In my opinion it is unlikely to be the model for the sword on the coat of arms.
