hi all,

Having just joined this group, I haven't had the time yet to peruse all the threads yet. But I would like to know of experience with some of the different Paul chen swords, ie, the damascus viking and tai chi , and the carbon steel wakizashis and katanas. I have quite a few "wall hangers" like the Highlander swords from Marto and many others. The gem of my collection is a Celtic battle axe made by Kirby, love the way it rings almost forever.

First off Welcome Robert...

I own only one Paul Chen/Hanwei sword (at the present.) It's the Mortuary Hilt #2004 (sharp version) and I absolutely love this sword. It's light, well made, well balanced, just over all...I'm very happy with it.

I wonder if this is my first post here... Oh well, I guess this is one way to introduce oneself. -grin-

Anyways, I have two practical vikings (2047-GT) and have handled the black jian (2008-GT). The practical vikings are rather blade-heavy, with points of balance at about six and a half inches from the cross, and transfer some vibration to the hilt, but otherwise they would seem to be very good sparring weapons, especially considering the price. They would seem to have a slightly soft-ish temper, too, but it isn't much of a problem with the flat edges. I've used the jian a couple of times, no cutting, though. It seems a bit fragile to me for some reason, but that may very well be from my lack of experience with Chinese swords in general. Overall, I'm very pleased with my Chens.

I own the Chen Viking and am quite pleased with it. For the price, I sdn't think you could get a better buy.

His Japanese weapons are very stout. His katanas are well built but seem a bit tip heavy. Requires alot of maitenance sp? Overall I believe they are worth the price. Take a look at his top of the line pieces at Bugei trading.
