A visit to see a special British sword at the Concord Museum -- myArmoury.com

Awhile back, I read an interesting article by the late Anthony D. Darling entitled:
"A Regimentally-Marked, Mid 18th Century British Infantry Sword In The Concord Antiquarian Museum".
(The article was in Vol. 24, No. 2, of the Canadian Arms Collecting series, May 1986.)

Being that the Concord Museum is located only a town away from where I live, and the fact that I'd never actually been there that I can recall, I figured 'ol Mac should go check it out for himself !
(Besides, August 16th was free admission day :-)

The Museum, although limited in the A&A department, turned out to be quite interesting, and the few pieces they did have were very cool and certainly in keeping with the events of the Revolutionary history the town is famous for!

I've assembled an album with the photos I took that day, and included the article by Mr. Darling that spurred on my visit to see this special little sword ..... It's a great read, so do check it out, savvy ;-)

Fantastic, Mac! Thanks for sharing. I believe G.G. Godwin carries a replica of that sword, or at least something similar.

Here it is (the replica and caption):
"Monster Head Hanger: [#661] Circa 1745-1765. The monster or gargoyle style hangers date back to the late 17th century. This has the cast rope design grip and a slightly dished heart shaped counterguard. Of particular interest is an original in the Concord Antiquarian Museum bearing the mark "X RG C VI-N 10". This indicates the 10th Regiment of British Infantry, its sixth Battalion company and the number of the private of that company to whom the sword was issued. this sword has a single fuller curved blade, 253/4" in length and the grip is brass. "
