For Sale: Scotia Metalworks Sgian Dubh
This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available

Up for sale, sadly, is my stag-handled sgian dubh by Michael McRae of Scotia Metalworks. The handle is crown sambar stag, which is increasingly hard to get in the US. The ferrule is brass and the blade is differentially-tempered 5160 (I believe). I know it's differentially tempered. The blade also sports Michael's maker's mark and traditional gimping on the spine; it's also protected by a clear coat of varnish I applied. It comes with a hard brown leather sheath that goes part-way up the grip. Stats:

Overall length: 7.5"
Width of bolster: .9375"
Blade: 3.2" long; .9375" wide tapering to .625"
Grip and bolster: 4.25"

I bought it for $120, and I'm sure his prices haven't gone down since my purchase, especially as he's commented that this kind of stag grip is hard to find and to import. The pic with the tartan background was taken this past weekend, so you can see the condition. It looks the same today as it does in my collection gallery and the other pictures.

Asking $95 + shipping. Money order accepted, PayPal preferred (please add 3% for PayPal).

Hello,

I would love to give this sgian dubh a new home. I am of Scottish descent (clan Grant) and collect all things sharp and pointy; especially Scottish. I can send a money order asap once you give me direction/address. I live outside Phila. PA.

Best regards,

Terry Crain
