Arms & Armour Museums in Rome?
Where should I go in Rome (Italy, not Georgia) to find historic arms and armour? I need to check my Negroli book, too, but it's boxed up for an upcoming move. Castel St. Angelo, I know, but what else?
Not that much but...
I live there and nonetheless I've never seriously searched for, believe it or not...anyway, most of the museums are specialized in roman and preroman period, or medieval and renaissance pictorial art. For the big armouries you have to go visit Turin, Florence, Venice or San Marino. Anyway I found a reference to this museum of the high middle-age

I think ,from the descriptions found on various sites, that there will be little arms and armours from the centuries of greatest interest, but if you happen to be there the ticket is quite cheap, so you can give it a try. If I get there in first person I'll tell you more informations, and more accurate too. I'm sorry I din't found any info in english to link, try to search for it.
bye
Many thanks, Sandro!

Does anybody have information, links or photos for any of these? I may be able to get to one on a side trip from Rome.
The museum albums here include pictures from Venice.

I don't know how your Italian is, but here is the virtual tour of the Turin armoury

(most of the stuff seems to be in the gallery - armour, and the rotunda - assorted weapons)
Thanks for the reminder, Felix! I completely forgot about that because I'd been so focused on Rome.
I've just found this one in Florence. Looks like a winner!

The Museo Stibbert is certainly a winner!

Can't believe I hadn't found it before now....
Check it out on our links page: http://www.museostibbert.it/

If you end up going, pick me up whatever arms and armour books they have from their bookstore! I'll buy them all!

If we do, I certainly will. :D We always reserve at least one suitcase for books.
