Hand and a Half finished
Julie and I just finished mounting up this Del Tin hand and a half blade. It has been fun since it has been a bit of a departure from my normal stuff, although you wouldn't realize it since I haven't been doing my normal stuff that much the last few months. A few first with this one that helped make things interesting, first time that I've wedged a guard and hot peened a pommel. The stats and more pictures can be found on my available section.

Julie is moving on to work on a rondel with a raised mid rib and then a pompeii gladius with a re-enforced point. I'll be starting on a double fullered La Tene III blade and then a La Tene I blade with a raised mid rib. Well there will be that Vimose II spatha that will finally be done before too much else gets started.

Nice work - I particularly like the grip.
Grip is very different and interesting.

What inspired it?
I like the blackened fittings and the grip. Did you sharpen the DT blade? Or does it have the factory blunt edge?
Thanks guys

The grip was inspired by Record's XVIIIa.3 on page 188. We just wanted that look, but stuck to a wider "V" and a bit more simple. Julie carved the grip and then we put wire along the transition to make it stand out more when we put the leather over it.

I did put an edge on it, but it isn't extremely sharp right now. Figured I would wait before I sharpened it any more to see how sharp someone might want it.

Sweet work Shane...really like it. Goin back to the early period stuff next?

Kenton
Thanks Kenton,

I have a couple Viking age pieces that I will be working on at some point sooner than later I hope. Other than that, yeah I am ready to get back to the celtic ironage weapons.

Shane
Shane,

Beautiful work. Great job on the wrapping.

Best,

Matt
