Greetings,

I am looking for input regarding this piece:

http://www.armart.antiquanova.com/SC2.htm

In your opinion, is this a historically based piece? Are there any museum pieces that you know that are similar to this?

I really like the looks of it, however I've never seen anything like it before.

It does look quite similar to various kreigmessers, but it is a bit slimmer than any i've seen....

Thanks,

Dustin

In my opinion, the blade is too curved for what it is trying to replicate. With a different blade shape, it would fit the hilt better.

Additional photos can be seen in my collection gallery.

And what, exactly, is it trying to replicate? I guess that is my question Happy

A swiss saber of some sort. The person who originally ordered the model would have to tell you if it was based on an extant original. There are samples I've seen in books with are equipped with a somewhat similar hilt, but a completely different blade. Other swiss sabers have quite a bit more comlex hilt than this one.

Thank you,

Those pictures were exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. In addition to the too-extreme curvature, I'd say that the Armart sabre also seems to lack the sort of cross-sectional variation the historic sabres seem to possess. Perhaps the Armart sabre is supposed to represent an earlier variation of the sabres pictures above? The substantially simpler hilt may be an indicator.

It still looks quite nice, nonetheless...

Anyone else care to chime in?

Dustin

Please do a search on the maker both here and on sword forum for some history.
With that being said.... I have ordered and recieved swords from them with no difficulties at all.

Hi R. Smith,

Thanks for the advice, though I wasn't asking for any information on the maker, only opinions on the "historical viability" of the sword itself...

Thanks,
Dustin
