Type XI Sword
We just finished making a Type XI sword for a customer and wanted to show it off.

Type XI sword approx 40 inch total length
Type G wheel pommel approx 2.5 inches in diameter
Style 1 spike or "Gaddhjalt" guard approx 7 inches long and 1/2 inch thick
Blade is 33 inches long
Groove extends to approx 3/4 of blade length
Groove begins in handle (tang of blade) to give continuous look
Armour's mark stamped
Grip is bone
Grip bands are of brass with piercework
Pommel has brass inlay (Gothic Foliage Motif") similar to piercework on bands
Pommel and crossguard are heat blued

A plain leather scabbard was requested for shipping and storage. Will be doing some final finishwork
before shipping it later. Just thought you all would like to see it.

I really like the pommel and bands.
That's really lovely! Do you have any other pictures?
I wouldn't mind seeing a full length shot of that myself...
As soon as I receive this sword, I will take some full length shots and post them. I'm really excited to get this sword. Great job Kirby!!! Thanks Laurie!
Looks really good and I too would like a full size shot of it.

Being a fan of Type XI's myself, I'm just dying to see a long shot of the blade!

Sweet hilt work, btw, especially the pommel.
Yes, type XI's are great and don't get nearly enough attention if you ask me. I have never seen a fuller that thin- is there historical precedent for this?

Jeremy
Tim, we got your email and I sent back a reply. Glad you like it.

To everyone else, I will try to have a full length shot of it later this weekend. This photo was taken and sent to Tim to let him know it was done. Digital cameras make this soooo nice to do. I still have to do some final cleaning up on the bands and Kirby still has to make the scabbard for it.

I do remember seeing fullers this thin on a couple of similar swords. They were not all consistantly the same as if from the same maker or shop.

By the way, it is fullered on both sides and it's 2/3 the way down.....not 3/4. (about 22 inches of the 33 inch blade is grooved) Of course, Tim knows this from the Notification email....I just forgot when typing in all the specs for the subject.
How much does it weigh? :)
Very nice.
It is nice.

If you have some closer shots of the details?
Ok, here are a couple more photos.

The "Full length" photo shows you how long the fuller is but the angle makes the sword look just a little bit shorter
than it actually is.

The other is an outside closeup.

Thank you.

Some of the inlay and scroll work (hope I'm using the right term) look amazing.
This is Kirby's own sword. More of a Type XII with a Cross guard style 6.
Not completely finished but enough to show here.

Overall length is 40 inches
Blade is 32 inches long
Width at guard is 2 1/4 and tapers
Flat diamond
The hilt is approximately 8 1/2 inches overall
Grip is 5 1/2 inches long
Guard is 9 inches long.

A Templar's Sword with their motto: "Non Nobis Dominus" piercework/overlaid on the guard. The pommel is piercework/overlay and the one piece hardword grip is sleeved.

The unfinished scabbard will have four mounts with similar piercework applied.
