I am intrested in high quality ancient greek iron weapons. The only place, besides the few MRL offer, I have been able to find that i'm interested in, are on the manning Imperial web site http://www.manningimperial.com/. I was hoping there would be someone who is familiar with the quality of Manning Imperials work. I have not found any reviews on their weapons on this website. I am also open to any suggestions on other makers of ancient greek weapons. If anybody could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

I've seen one or two first hand, but its been a while.

From what I can remember they were very well executed.

I have a bronze spearhead and buttspike that I ordered from him. They're great. PLEASE give him photographs, as I just offered an alternate design pattern on a previous piece of his (Canaanite spearhead made socketed) and it didn't turn out with an accurate look. But, my miscommunication discounted, his work was fabulous.

His waiting period can be almost a year, though...

Yes, Manning is pretty much the place to go for good Greek weapons. I wouldn't even look at MRL! You'd be much better off with Deepeeka--from what I've seen they have some reasonably accurate pieces. But if "high quality" is what you're after, stick with Manning.

The Roman Army Talk board has a section for Greek discussions, and a Marketplace section as well, and the folks there should be able to tell you more.

I also think that Manning looks most impressive as a company. What particularly interests me is their selection of Medieval sabres. It all looks very cool.

Away from Greek swords, I know, but check out Manning Imperial's bronze Canaanite khopesh - it looks very good. I wonder how much it weighs?

I believe they can still cast those from the original, and I know that David Wilson owns one. Might want to ask him about the weight.

How about checkin' out that new Philip II cuirass? Wow, wow, wow!

I don't have it right with me now, but the Canaanite Khopesh isn't too bad -- it's around 2 lbs and some change, no lightweight but very manageable.

I have oakshott type xi sword from manning imperial, his work is superb. It has stood up well to after twelve months of steel on steel bouting and the edge has not needed any filing yet.
