Cool. That makes 5 of us then. Hopefully Mark and Don can make it, too.
We'll start at 2:00 or whenever people get there. We'll cut whatever we have on hand and whatever folks bring. I'll have some noodles and some cardboard tubes. We can cut and socialize until we get hungry, then I'll fire up the grill.
The weather should be nice (gorgeous in fact). I'll pick up brats and hot dogs, and maybe burgers (or some combination). If anyone has special dietary needs, let me know and I'll do what I can to accomodate them. I'll have water, soda, sports drinks and snacks on hand, too. I do have cats now, so if anyone has allergy issues, be aware that there are 8 legs of feline fury running around.

Doug,
I'd love to see your Borderwatch, as well as check out the Viceroy and Knight again, plus whatever else you have lying around.
By the way, Allan Senefelder says you still need to send your MT arms back to him for retro-fitting.

Right. Then I'll bring a few extra toys.

I know, I know. Actually, I've been putting that off for just a bit while I figure out what I want to do to complete a kit. I might ask him to do a little extra work on them, or I may go a different route, entirely. I've been thinking about going back and doing a 14th century thing. But, I just don't find myself attracted to the 14th century helms. I really SHOULD have sent them to NY with you, but I didn't want you to have to worry about extra junk! How was the trip, by the way?
Thanks for the warning about the cats. Claratin it is, then!
What can I bring, food/refreshment-wise? If there are just going to be 5 of us, I could pick up some steaks. Anybody dislike steak?

I'll vacuum really thoroughly before people arrive and I'll put the cats downstairs so they don't impale themselves, but is is shedding season after all...
Steaks are always good, as are other grilled meats. At this point, I haven't done any shopping, so whatever people want to bring is fine; I'll buy the rest. We'll need beverages, snacks, meat, buns, or whatever else people want to eat. If Don and/or Mark can come, that would make it 6 or 7 people.

Unless Joe or Ted say they don't care for dead bovine, I'll bring 6 steaks, assuming there is a 50% chance (each) that Don or Mark can come. I'll bring more if they chime in with an affirmative! We don't actually have to grill them all. Might not be a bad idea to have a few hotdogs or brats in the fridge, just in case someone doesn't care for a slab of red meat.

I had to move it back to August 5.
As for meat, if it can't outrun me and its been cooked, I'll eat it.

Don't think I'll be able to make this one guys. Slaughter a few pool noodles for me.

Wish it wasn't so far from here, as a big group cutting party would be a blast, and I'd love to meet more poeple with the interest. As it is, Patrick K. and I had planned on doing some noodle and tatami slaughtering ourseleves on Saturday (do you think we can wear ourselves out on 25 noodles and 40 tatami mats? hehe). I think you guys are going to have the better weather for it. Best of luck and have FUN!

Thank you Chad, for hosting.
Thank you Doug, and Robin, for the steaks.
Thank you Don, for bringing and sharing some of your very special (IMO) collection.
I guess I'll also thank the rest of us, for showing up!

Joe, it was good to see you again! Special thanks to Doug and Robin for cooking those excellent steaks (and for bringing an Albion Knight) and to Don for sharing a bit of his antique collection. When I got up that morning, I never thought that later on I'd be holding an actual 15th C sword in my hands! What a joy!
And thanks to Chad for being a wonderful host!

There are a few nice pictures, but I haven't had a chance to work on them to get the file sizes down, yet.
Ted, there are a coule really nice pictres of you holding Don's type 15. I think you'll like them.
Don, it was great to meet you! It was very generous of you to bring those pieces down and let us drool on them.
Joe, that halberd is a great piece! Thanks for sharing, and thanks to Craig for making it! I think it is time for me to get a polearm or two!
Ted, I really enjoyed checking out your A&A pieces, and I enjoyed chatting with you, too. Next time, I intend to get around to cutting with that Schloss Erbach. I'm afraid that Don's collection arriving disrupted my cutting schedule, just a bit.
Chad, as always, it was a real pleasure! Thanks for everything!

OK, I have a few pictures. Please excuse the quality, but I wanted to get them up, and didn't have much opportunity to optimize them for size and quality.

I wanted to try to cut with my arming doublet and Mercenary's Tailor arms and legs on, to see what it is like. Well, that and this is the first time I've cut since my little "incident" with the Sovereign.

Doug, nice doublet. Is that from Historic Enterprises? I've been thinking of getting one of those.

Here are a few of the pieces Don brought from his collection. Amazing, really.

The condition of this piece is unreal. I've seen new stuff with worse pitting.

Ted examines a medeival Type XV. This was a river find, so it isn't in the greatest condition. Still, holding a piece like this is a memorable experience.

The smallsword in front has very intricate decoration, and the gold inlay is still visible in much of it. The complex-hilt behind still has its leather grip.

Yes, Mark, it is. It is quite nice, actually. I think you'd like it. Gwen tailored it a little for fit. I think mostly so it would fit around my middle.
I should have mentioned that, Mark, thanks for reminding me. I think the one thing I need to change about this combination is that I need to be able to attach the arms to the doublet with points. You might be able to tell that the arms slide down and crimp on my hands. They need to be supported a little better. I'll ask Allen to think about that bit. Maybe he can come up with something when I send them back for updating. Then I can add points to the doublet after he tells me where to put them.
I took a little ribbing about the anachronisms in my kit, but I don't know what they were talking about. Who's to say whether or not the Numenoreans wore Wrangler's or not? It's not like we've found firm evidence to say they DIDN'T!
Anyway... when I get around to buying chauses, braies, and turnshoes, I'll put them on. Frankly, I think I need some more steel outerwear, first!
