I have a sword that was passed down through my family that I would like any information about.
It is 331/2 " overall the the blade is 28" to the cross. The cross is quite ornate with a sword and staff crossed through a crown and 3 rings at the tips. the handle is brass with leather. The pommel is a crown on top of a globe. The blade is not sharp on either side but the tip is. The blade has raised engraving on both sides. One side has two shields with the points towards the handle. between the two shields is again the sword, staff crossed through a crown and 3 rings. the other side has some letters but can not make them out. Both sides have exstensive scroll work.Tom
This sounds like a fraternal/secret society sword. Do you have the scabbard? The scabbard might have some initials on it that would help Iidentify the order. It sounds like a sword for the Patriarchs Militant. Check out the link: http://www.ruble-enterprises.com/society_PM.htm

Thank you for your help. It is indeed a Patriarchs Militant sword used by the independent Order of Odd Fellows. I found an excellent picture on the web site that Jonathan sent me to. Thanks for your time.Tom
