Hi all, i'm just looking for some information and possibly some photos, of any examples of sabers from the rennaisance period. I'm looking for examples in particular of those similar to the ones on the right hand page . Happy

I'd call most of those either hangers, falchions or backswords, and I think searching the fora and albums here for those terms will be your best bet for info about these weapons. The only one of these that makes me think "saber" is on page 2 at far left.

I know precious little about sabers, but I'm a big fan of hangers and falchions. These weapons were especially favored by infantry stretching back at least into the late 13th c., and the general characteristics of the blades didn't change dramatically over the next four centuries or so--relatively short, broad, single-edged blade, often with a slight curvature and clipped point or false edge. I would say that of these weapons, falchion's have the broadest blades, while hanger blades might be slightly narrower. I think of sabers as having longer, narrower blades.
