Friday was a great day, the arrival of the Irish Sword from A & A, I had admired this sword last summer at the Renaissance Faire, love the hilt on it, a lot of crossguard and pommel presence which locks the hand in very comfortably, seems to be the same blade as on the Knightly Riding Sword, but has a different feel to it. The crossguard is
9 3 /16 "across the open ring pommel is 2 1/4" wide, from inside crossguard to pommel base is 3 1/4", blade length is 31 and 1/4 from tip to crossguard base, blade width is 1 and 5/8 inches at base, point of balance is 5 1/2" from crossguard, on my knightly the point of balance is 6" from crossguard and the blade is 1 3/4 across at the base, so the Knightly Riding Sword and the Irish Sword are slightly different as far as in regard to the blade.

I am no sword expert, far from it, I am in the learning process and in my first year, which is why I am limiting what I say in comparing both these swords of which I have in my possession. They have a slightly different feel, both are good for thrusting, slashing and cutting, beyond that I will not attempt to elaborate.

I will say that I like the snug fit of the hilt in my hand and I do have large hands, it's easy to see provided you are wearing gauntlets the versatility this sword has as a weapon as the crossguard and pommel are capable of causing an immense amount of damage.

Here is a link to the Irish Sword http://www.arms-n-armor.com/sword085.html

I'd like to close with listing the swords and rapier I have from Arms & Armor as I am absolutely thrilled with each one of them in their own right. German Bastard Sword, English Longsword, Durer Bastard Sword, Knightly Riding Sword, Henry V Sword, Irish Sword and the Italian Three Ring Rapier.

Oh Boy Oh Boy am I Happy! Big Grin

I only know how to post photos via the attachment feature, I do not have a photo bucket, but I would sure like to be able to post pictures in posts. Perhaps someone can explain it to me in an email as I am a bit of a PC nimbnull. Big Grin

I only listed the swords I have that are made by Arms & Armor, I have 3 others, Sir William Marshall Sword by Hanwei,
Pompei Gladius by 2nd Generation (as I recall, it's a good one though) Grosse Messer by Cold Steel. I also have the Coustile which I sharpened by Windlass, but that is really a dagger with a 17" blade. I also have numerous other items from Arms & Armor.

Anyway that's kind of getting off topic.

Next acquisition focus is a maile hauberk and coif, going to go with the Windlass on those, rivetted and zinc dipped, I can get an excellent price through the internet vendor that is 17 and a half miles from me.

I will say that I am "very" fond of the Irish Sword!

Bob,
You don't need a photobucket. You need digital pictures on your hard drive. That's it. Happy

Simple steps to attaching pictures (which are explained in the Info section on this page: http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/faq.php?mode=attach):

1) Create a post
2) Type some text
3) Scroll down to where it says "Add an Attachment."
4) Next to Filename, click the Browse button and navigate to where the file lives on your hard drive (ex: c:\documents and settings\bob\my documents).
5) Double click on the file (ex: irishswordpic1.jpg)
6) Click Add attachment

If you want to add more than one, repeate steps 4-6.

Happy

Thank you Chad, oh well, our camera is a Nikon N 75 SLR film. So I guess I will have to stick with attachments then?

But thanks Chad, I do appreciate the help!

Congratulations on getting a beautiful sword.

As Chad said, you don't really need photobucket, however it is free, so it might be worth doing anyway. It also might be worth signing up to imageshack as well because they allow you to post bigger pics. Happy

Bob,
My instructions were for attachments. Are your pictures in an electronic format (ie. on a computer or disk)? If not, you'll need a scanner or you'll need to ask your photo developer to make a disk in addition to print-outs (most places do this nowadays).

If your photos only exist on paper, you need to get electronic versions of them. The forum software can't upload paper. Happy

Thanks so much everyone!

Sorry Chad, yes I do have a scanner and can of course scan onto the computer, have not taken any photos yet so I guess in fact you have answered my question on loading photos.

Thank you!
