Irish Galloglas "Claymore"
Okay gentlemen, here's another one I'm seeking any info on.
Both on the cover of & within the book 'Celtic Warriors: 400 B.C. - A.D. 1600' by Tim Newark is a depiction of an Irish Galloglas with a claymore style sword. It has a straight guard (w/ what appear to be thistle looking finals) & an open ring pommel. I had read somewhere once (& have long since lost the source) that this is based on an actual speciman in a museum or collection.
Can anybody give me any details on the origin of this style of sword, on its dimensions or any other pertinent details?

Thank you.

Aye.
There are many, many topics in this very forum that discuss Irish swords, particularly those with the open ring pommel.

In particular, one of the first ones showing up with a simple search is this topic.
