Mike's first knife...
Mike Sigman has turned his hand to knifemaking... this is his first effort. I liked it so much, I bought it before he had even finished it!

Best,

Howy
A tip of the bonnet to 'ol Mikey ...... Albion is just full of talented souls !

Lookout though ...... Mike might be turning in his phone for a hammer ;-)

Kudos, laddie ! Mac
Kudos to Mike on a fine looking knife! I'm looking forward to seeing your next project!
Wow Mike! Very nice! Careful, Peter, you may have some competition from within the company! :p
Hey nice job Mike! I've been expecting this sort of announcement for a while... I don't think anyone could spend that much time around so many sharp and pointies and eventually not want to try their hand at it. So is this going to be a sideline business or a hobby or just a step on the way to making swords or what?
That's a darned good first effort sexy! I like the overall shape and size very much.
Wow guys!! Thanks a lot. This really means a lot.

Jason has been taking some of his free time on the weekends to show me the ropes. Had some talks with Jody as well about it. I have been wanting to try this for a while and finally am able to get a little free times on the weekends to give it a whirl. Going to be starting another one shortly I hope.

I really appreciate the comments guys. Thanks a million!!!!

Mike, I knew you were world class but didn't know just how much. That's really nice.

Someday I'll have to commision a deuling bowie from you. :D
Hey Mike, that looks fantastic man!!! It's great to see you make blades yourself now!!
Mike;

Nice knife, no need for qualifiers like " for a first knife " ;)

Very nice flowing lines going from convex to concave it just feels right ! The only thing I might change, very slightly, are the bevels of the false edge which may just be hard to see at the angle of the photograph: Even if not sharpened I personally like the look of a false edge bevel.

But that is just design nit picking on my part :p
congratulations Mike! It's 100% better than my first attempt at making a knife! :)
Very cool, Mike  ! I know how you are all about the very little sharp and pointies.

. . . Now, I know some folks have already mentioned stepping from here into swords and all, but let's just set the swords aside for a minute and get back to the business at hand. . .

Daggers, man, daggers. That's where it's at. ;)
Like it!
Hey Mike!
I like the blade design on that a lot! Care to give us any specs and sources of inspiration?
Hi Mike,
I really like that knife. I look forward to seeing more!
Re: Like it!
Thanks again guys. Your thoughts mean a lot.

The blade is made out of 6150 and the wood is curly cherry. Thickness is 1/4" at the spine, blade length is 7 1/2" and the overall is 12".

I just love Bowie's and that is why I went with a Bowie as my first knife.

Something that Mike has neglected to mention is that this blade was hollow-ground. Mike kinda jumped into the deep end right away with blade-making and started swimming.

Damn Mike, nice job! :D  :D
Bonus points for the hollow grind :D

. . . so, bowies, you say. . .

Here's two in my collection from South of the Big River. Brass hiltwork, bone grips, the big one is just shy of 14" overall, the little one is 12" even, your guess on vintage is as good as mine. They feel nice in the hand, the big one with a little blade presence and the small one balanced closer to the hilt and very quick. Maybe not the best pieces in the world, but something about them just clicked with me; I probably should have passed them along a long time ago but for some reason they just keep sticking with me. . .

Re: Like it!
I really like that rounded edge on it  Great work Mike!

Mike, that's outstanding work, no qualifiers necessary or possible. :)
