Thanks, William. I'll try...

 It's evil.
 It's mean.
 It's downright nasty.
 It's a bad seed.
 It has a serious attitude problem.
 It does NOT play well with others.
 Girls, THIS is the sword your daddy warned you about...

Does that help? ;)

What they says about Berserkrs in the game Total war:

Viking Berserkers
The wise men say that berserksgangr, the battle-madness of the Berserkers, is a gift from Odin himself. Despising armour, Berserkers spread slaughter across the battlefield, feeding the crows with the blood of their enemies. A wise commander does not try to control them, but simply lets them go...
Wow! The berserkr is really cool! I was never a fan of viking swords at all *but* this is an exception. IT's something about the wasted grip that makes it very attractive. When seen in a concept drawing, I wasn't very impressed, but seeing it for real- I was very impressed...this seems to happen alot :). Keep up the good work Albion! I believe i'll be ordering a Crecy in few days.... ;)
Sorry for the thread necromancy, but...

I love the waisted grip on the Berserkr, and note with mild disappointment it's currently the only one of its kind in the Next Generation. Are there any plans to include more waisted grips in the NG line?

PS. The Valkyrja looks, based on the concept art, like it would be another one (and based on a Finnish find, no less :)), am I right?
Hi Mikko,

Glad you like what you see.

Waisted grips are featured also on the Thegn as well as the Valkyrja. The Valkyrja is indeed based on the famous Sountaka sword (not a copy, since some aspects are differen but it has had a strong influence on the design).

On future vikings I think waisted grips are going to be an element in the design. Not all, but I do not plan to limit this feature on these three present swords.

Thanks
Peter
Thank you, Peter, glad to hear that!

I'd actually never noticed the Thegn also has a waisted grip... I guess it's just not very obvious in the concept art and my limited cognitive capacity simply lumped it in with the rest. :D

Glad to hear that there will be future vikings, particularly with waisted grips. Have you thought of doing a version of the 'other' Petersen Type X, with the taller pommel and the slightly downturned cross (like the Sandeherred, f. 129).
That might suit a waisted grip well.

Geoff
With all the recent declaration of people's affinity for the waisted grip, I thought I'd kick my thoughts in....

I have the Berserkr. It's far from the first example I have seen of a waisted grip, but the first I have had the opportunity to handle dynamically. My initial thought (before handling) was that it may be a tad awkward, since I have big paws, and thinner grips typically aren't as comfortable for me. This was unfounded... Instead, what I experienced was a slight adjustment period to the feel of the piece and the interaction of the hilt and my hand. Now, I find it very comfortable - different than any of the rest of my collection - but really a joy in hand. I personally would welcome more of these grips into my collection in the future...

Nasty piece, that Berserkr... Love it.
